This year's Burton Australian Open was a successful event for the TSC comp squad. The setup was an improvement on last season, and with a international contingent twice as tough as '07, it was always going to be a big ask for our grommies.
The last major event for the season, and it all fell into place for our riders. In the slopestyle, the boys runs all came together, dropping tech tricks into their runs that could stand up against the best. Andrew Roth and Iver Lynne had their linked runs on lock until the weather struck again. A little snow changed the speed and made life a tad slow. The wax king Nick Wood had the speed. His run was just what he wanted and the judges agreed. Nick finished in 10th place, just outside the cut-off mark, the top riders all European and American pro's. Scott James and Chris DeCampo, also fellow Mount Buller locals, finished in 8th and 9th respectively.
Over in the halfpipe, speed was a little problem for most riders. Lauren Staveley had no issues. All the edging work throughout the season had paid off and her frontside air's were not far off the likes of Hanna Teter. She put in a super solid performance and grabbed a 5th place in open woman.
Congratulation to all the riders for another great effort. |
